Sustainable Care Series:
Self, Community & Beyond

In this four-part series, we partner with different experts ranging from community workers to healing arts practitioners to educators to parents to artists, and discuss why “self-care” has become a complicated term.

We cannot take care of others if our own energy is zapped. But as our knowledge of self-care grows, so do economic, social and psychological disparities. How can we take care of ourselves as well as the community? Learning to care for our communities is essential to our well-being, as we cannot thrive without our community.  We will explore ways to live with compassion, reciprocity, harmony and humanity in the interests of building and maintaining a community of  justice and mutual caring.

The strategies we'll examine; self-soothing, self-care, community care and structural care will  help guide us to a new understanding of what care really means for ourselves, our communities and our world.

Self-care isn’t enough; we need community care to thrive!

  • Part I Beyond Self-Care

  • Part II  Avoiding the Burnout Trap

  • Part III Community Care For the Win

  • Part IV  Renovations Within & Without

The Origin of You Workshop

We have all been influenced by those we grew up with--whether they are family by blood, or those who raised us.. Storytelling is a tool that can be emphasized as a way to get to know our histories, ourselves and our families better. This workshop will offer storytelling techniques that not only connect each participant to their unique family's past, but position each individual to become more actively involved  in the design of their own future.
